I am currently at 27 stars and the progress has been very smooth without much difficulties, because I spent a lot of time thinking about game mechanics and planning. So here are some Two Point Hospital Advanced Tips that I found to be useful at middle to late stages of the game. I will constantly update this post as I find more tips.
1. Training and Assignment
It is quite often that you train a staff and wish change the assignment after the person’s training is completed. However, it is easy to forget about it.
There is a simple solution to this problem:
Adjust the assignment immediately after starting the training. You can see who is undergoing training currently by checking the skills columns of the staff panel. The skill being trained will appear lighter in color:
2. Hiring
Hire candidates that have specialized skills instead of a mixture of skills, even if specialized skills are low level.
For example, between a doctor with just GP skill I and a doctor with both GP skill I and treatment skill I, hire the doctor with just GP skill, and then train the doctor to have more GP skills.
This will work better in a long run compared to having staff with mixed skills. Here are some reasons:
- For a mixture of skills, some slots will be useless at any time. Consider a doctor with both GP and treatment skills, GP skill will be useless when treating patients, and treatment skills will be useless when in GP room. Hence they are less effective in any situation.
- Every useless skill slot is causing money in the form of salary (one more useless skill slot means paying a few thousand dollars every month for nothing gained).
- For a mixture of skills, time is needed to switch rooms (from diagnosis to treatment). This will leads to longer waiting time for patients and queues. For a staff with specialized skill, you can either assign them to just one room, or assign them to different rooms with same skill requirements and put the rooms close to each other. Either way it is more efficient than having mixed skills.
Note that some rooms require both treatment and diagnosis skills (Wards and DNA labs for example). In the case of Wards, since Ward Management skill already gives both treatment and diagnosis bonus, it is more preferred than simply diagnosis or treatment skills.
However, in the case of DNA lab, Genetics skill doesn’t give any bonus, so both diagnosis and treatment skills are needed. This is not a case of mixture of skills, but rather a collection of skills allows the staff to be specialized in DNA lab.
3. Move Existing Rooms for Better Layout
After expanding your hospital, you will find yourself building treatment and diagnosis rooms further away from the entrance. This will cause longer walking distance for patients and add to the queue length.
A good way of solving this problem is to simply relocate less important rooms further away, to make space for more important rooms. For example, you can relocate your training rooms, toilets, research and marketing rooms to far away so that you can put more diagnosis rooms and treatment rooms closer to GP rooms, other diagnosis and treatment rooms. Or you can expand existing rooms to have more upgrade items to improve their effectiveness.
4. Optimize Hospital Layout for Waiting Areas
I like to build waiting areas that sit in the middle of a few rooms that patients visits, stocked with vending machines for food and drinks. This saves space compared one waiting area for each room, and the bigger areas helps to reduce congestion due to queues.
There should be at least one waiting area near each room that is used by patients (GP, diagnosis and treatment rooms). Otherwise, patients will travel far away just to get food or drinks, causing long queues. Similarly, there should be a toilet near each waiting area.
5. Upgrades Instead of Staff Level
As you progress to late stage of the game, having many high level staff will lower your profit or even make you lose money every month. This is because the salary of staff keeps increasing while the revenue from diagnosis and treatment stagnates as your reputation reaches the maximum.
To counter the effect of rising salary, buy upgrades in the room or upgrade your machines to improve effectiveness, instead of promoting and training staff unnecessarily. This technique works because the cost of upgrades are only one time, unlike salary where you need to pay every month.
Also, after upgrading most your machines to max level, you can fire janitors that has high level of Mechanics (which you hired for upgrading) or replace them with cheaper labor.
6. Replace Plants with Fountains, Bins with Toxic-Waste Bins
If you have looked at janitors closely, you will find out that they spend a lot of time watering plants or cleaning the bins. By replacing plants with Fountains, they will no longer require maintenance by janitors while still having the original effects. This allows you to save a ton of money because you can hire fewer janitors. Similarly, replacing bins with Toxic-Waste Bins will make them require less maintenance by janitors.
If you don’t have enough space, you can also replace plants with Yucca, which gives same effects as plants but requires less watering.
Anything Else?
That all I can think of at this moment. I will update this post if I recall or find anything else useful. Feel free to comment your tips below.
